Report on Balika Diwas Programme at NKES High School

Balika Diwas or National Girl Child Day is celebrated in Mumbai on 3rd January to honour the legacy of Savitribai Phule who was a pioneer of women’s education in Maharashtra. She was the first female teacher in India. Balika Diwas raises awareness about the importance of empowering girls and creating an environment where they can thrive without gender discrimination. In NKES High School too, Balika Diwas was celebrated on grand scale.
The Chief Guest of the programme was a Police Inspector from Matunga police station Mr.Keshav Wagh. He too highlighted the importance of sports in life and shared tips on maintaining a balanced diet, staying hydrated, and practicing yoga for overall well-being.
Sports activities were organized for girls from classes V to X, encouraging active participation in games such as Throwball, Volleyball, and Kabaddi. These events aimed to promote physical fitness while fostering a positive mindset among students. Sports help to build confidence,teamwork, discipline, resilience and so on.
The event included an informative session by Savita Nagananda Teacher. She discussed the biological aspects of menstruation, the importance of maintaining menstrual hygiene, and the use of safe menstrual products. The session also addressed common misconceptions and encouraged students to ask questions openly. The session also covered aspects of reproductive health,including puberty, hormonal changes, and the significance of regular health check-ups.
Students participated in large numbers enthusiastically and celebrated the day happily and
joyfully.
